One of my favorite things about testing a new pattern is going out and taking pictures with my little Bitty. It is the grand finale of sorts. Sometimes we stick around the yard and other times we venture out to explore our area and find a new perfect spot. In this test for Little Lizard King we played with both the Providence and Boston patterns.
Providence is the PERFECT summer dress (or top) for all fabrics, especially those gorgeous border prints! The base of the dress is a clean sew with pops of fun from the bias around the neck/back, arms and skirt.
The back slit is simply adorable and a really fun detail for the back! Don’t let making your own bias scare you! It’s simple and explained in the pattern tutorial or you can follow this tutorial which shows how to make continuous bias tape (a time saver). I used a 20″ x 20″ square for the whole dress and hair ties and STILL had a bit left over.
Red, White, and Blue was the theme and I can’t think of anything more summer than water and sailboats. This fabric is a retired Michael Miller that I’ve been holding on to for a couple years, but you may still be able to find it in a destash group or on Etsy.
So, if you are looking to whip up an adorable little dress, Providence is the one!
Next, we tried out the Boston pattern. What a cute, cute pattern this is!! Boston is available as a button up top or dress with a sash that can be tied in front or back. We paired our top with LLK’s Beaufort shorts and just had a ball outside with photos.
My daughter is in constant motion. She loves dancing, jumping, and twirling so we need clothes that will move with her. This top not only kept her cool but also stayed in place.
The criss-cross straps in the back are such a cute detail for a fun summer top. And, if you are wondering these fabrics are a mix from Art Gallery and Joann’s.
The only time she was still was when she found a tiny “fairy” on the flowers.
